Rings of light in a green oak frame at the Balcombe chalk pit offices
The Glynde Estate, at the foot of the South Downs near Lewes, has built new offices at Balcombe, one of the old Glynde chalk pits that once fed the estate’s lime works and railway. Inside, a double-height atrium and staircase rise under exposed green oak trusses, with offices opening off the galleried landing.
HALO BOYA 90 rings, 800mm across, hang between the trusses, while a special two-ring HALO BOYA 40 pendant, both rings on a single ceiling rose, marks the entrances and landings. All are finished in RAL 9006 to sit quietly against the oak, and all are mains dimmable. Downlight-only LIGHT LINE 50 SUSPENDED linears pick out the timber frame without hiding it. The structure is the star; the lighting simply gives it a good stage. Oak, lit.
