Saltdean Lido

A Grade II* Art Deco lido reborn as a community hub

Designed by R.W.H. Jones and opened in 1938, Saltdean Lido is one of the finest Moderne buildings on the south coast and was listed Grade II* in 2011. An £8m restoration by rhp architects, built by Buxton, brought the building fully back into public use in March 2024 as a community hub: poolside café, public library, ballroom, gym, co-working space and community rooms.

The lighting is all about flexibility. GEMINI 4 and GEMINI 4 ADJUSTABLE downlights run through the restored spaces, tunable white and controlled wirelessly by Casambi, so each room can move from cool, crisp daylight for the library and co-working to warm evening light for events, at the touch of an app. Discreet fittings that let the Art Deco architecture lead. Same building, any mood.
