Fully serviceable
A luminaire that can be opened and serviced stays in use for far longer than one that is sealed shut. Our own luminaires are put together so that every component can be reached and replaced.
- LED boards, drivers, emergency inverters and batteries can all be replaced with standard tools.
- Standard mechanical fixings throughout: screws, nuts, studs, standoffs and clips, never glued or sealed in, so components come out the way they went in.
- Branded control gear from names such as Tridonic as standard, so replacements are easy to source for years to come.
- We keep spare parts for every component we fit.
- A five-year warranty as standard, because we expect our luminaires to last. Read the warranty policy.
Upgrade, don't replace
When technology moves on, the housing and diffuser rarely need to go anywhere. We service, refurbish and upgrade our luminaires, and supply replacement gear trays and retrofit solutions that bring an existing installation up to current efficiency and controls while keeping the fitting in service.
- Servicing and refurbishment of returned luminaires.
- Replacement gear trays and LED upgrades for installed fittings.
- Retrofit solutions for existing schemes.
Maintenance guides show how to replace each component. The first, for HERCULES LED, is available now: HERCULES LED maintenance guide (PDF) (registered specifiers: sign in or register). More ranges will follow.
Made in Britain
Our luminaires are assembled in West Sussex, with branded components as standard. Building in Britain keeps us close to our customers, lets us build to order rather than to stock, and means servicing, spares and upgrades come from the people who made the luminaire.
Embodied carbon: CIBSE TM65
We calculate embodied carbon with the official CIBSE TM65 mid-level method: the materials in each luminaire, transport, manufacture, the parts replaced over its life and end of life, with the TM65 buffer applied. Reports are published product by product.
- HERCULES LED (twin 1500mm) TM65 report (PDF) (registered specifiers: sign in or register)
More reports will be added as each range is weighed and assessed. TM65 reports can also be requested for project submissions.
Circular economy: CIBSE TM66
CIBSE TM66 sets out how lighting can move from make, use and dispose to a circular economy: products that last, can be maintained and upgraded, and whose materials are recovered at the end. Our fully serviceable design, spare parts, refurbishment and upgrade service follow those principles.
We assess our luminaires with the CIBSE TM66 Circular Economy Assessment Method (CEAM-Make), which rates product design, manufacturing, materials and the support around a product on a scale of 0 to 4. HERCULES LED is the first: 1.80 overall, with product design in the top band (2.54, excellent circularity). Assessments are self-declared; the completed workbook and its evidence are available on request.

More ranges will follow, with each summary published on its product page.
Efficient light
The energy a luminaire uses over its life usually outweighs the carbon in making it. Our current ranges use high-efficacy LED boards, many of them above 150 lm/W, and every product page shows the lumens, watts and efficacy of each version.
- DALI-2, sensors, daylight dimming and corridor functions to use light only where and when it is needed. Controls.
- Photometric files for every version, checked against the published output, so designs use exactly the light that is needed.
- A free lighting design service to get the right luminaire in the right place. Lighting design.
Protecting the night sky
Light that goes up is wasted and adds to sky glow. Exterior luminaires that meet the DarkSky criteria on their own photometric files, fully shielded or within the uplight limits with 3000 K available, are marked with a moon on their product cards.
End of life
When a luminaire finally reaches the end of its life, its parts separate with the same tools used to service it: aluminium and steel for metal recycling, polycarbonate for plastics recycling, electronics for WEEE treatment and lithium batteries for battery recycling. We meet our obligations under the WEEE Regulations. WEEE information.
